Description

This high-protein, comfort-forward meal perfectly bridges the gap between a classic bolognese and a creamy baked ziti. By incorporating blended cottage cheese into the marinara base, this dish achieves a velvety, luxurious texture without the need for heavy cream or butter. It is a nutritious, satisfying weeknight dinner that is easy to prepare and packed with savory, tangy depth, making it a perfect healthier alternative to traditional cheese-heavy pasta bakes.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb lean ground beef
8 oz protein-fortified pasta
1 cup small-curd cottage cheese
2 cups high-quality marinara sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente.
While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and fully cooked through.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
In a blender, process the cottage cheese until it is completely smooth.
Reduce the skillet heat to low, add the marinara sauce, and stir in the blended cottage cheese until well combined and heated through.
Drain the pasta and toss it directly into the skillet with the sauce until well coated.
Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

Ensure the cottage cheese is blended until completely smooth to achieve the best emulsion.
You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef if preferred.
If you find the sauce too thick, add a tablespoon or two of the pasta cooking water to reach the desired consistency.
