Description

Indulge in a healthier take on a classic orchard dessert with this protein-packed apple crisp. Featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced Granny Smith apples topped with a hearty, crunchy oat and protein powder crumble, this dish offers a perfect balance of nutrition and comfort. It is an ideal post-workout treat or a satisfying family dessert that supports muscle recovery without the typical blood sugar spike of traditional recipes.

Ingredients

Scale

5 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup rolled or old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup vanilla whey or plant-based protein powder
1/4 cup oat flour
1/4 cup unsalted butter or coconut oil, melted
2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Toss the apple slices with cinnamon in a medium mixing bowl and place into a greased baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, protein powder, oat flour, melted butter, and maple syrup until a crumbly texture forms.
Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
Bake for 35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Notes

Use gluten-free certified oats if you have specific dietary sensitivities. If the topping browns too quickly, tent the dish with aluminum foil for the final 10 minutes. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
